As we know, active dental caries occurs when remineralisation loses the battle with demineralisation. There are many factors involved that cause dental caries to start, stop, reverse and then get started again. When the diet is high in sugar, saliva quality and quantity is poor and plaque control is inadequate, dental caries can occur at an alarming rate. Add in a removable dental appliance and the process is accelerated along with a very high incidence of denture stomatitis and periodontal disease.
